Before the software industries came into existence, the defense forces were an attractive employment opportunity because of the housing, educational , and travel facilities made available to its people. The government should provide the same to the farming communities too. These loan waivers are just a political gimmick. When would the leaders learn to behave according to their conscience? The country needs to take the agriculturists as seriously as the defence personnel. I have read credible sources saying that by 2030, Punjab will be dead as an agricultural zone. Slightly less credible - I hope - sources put the year as 2020. In any case, it is fast approaching. If this isn't stopped very soon, it will spell disaster not only for the Punjabis, but for all of India. Stopping this should be a major goal of the government, as well as the farmers.
