It seems preparation is going on in America to mount a quickie sort of an attack on Iran to scuttle its nuke-acquiring ambitions but I wonder if they’ll succeed. Remember Iraq? Remember Afghanistan? If they haven’t been able to drive out Bin Laden from his rat hole in Tora Bora what precision can they insure in Iran? It seems the American’s are hell bent upon attacking all and sundry just because they can, creating one mess after another. No, I don’t intend to say things were less messy in the attacked countries before the attacks. Both Iraq and Afghanistan were being ruled by psychopaths and a stand needed to be taken.
I don’t doubt Iran’s intentions. It’s a hotbed of worldwide fundamentalism and religious terrorism so it acquiring the nuclear strike capabilities no doubt means the terrorists acquiring it and the Israeli apprehensions are quite valid. In India, due to communal politics we always try to remain on the good side of Iran but we all know where it stands when it comes to fundamentalism and establishing pan-Islamic bigotry all over the world.
Still, this is a dangerous trend and it seems America is turning into an international vigilante just because, fortunately or unfortunately for the world, no country, as of now, can take on America. Personally I feel this is not a good situation. Unopposed power is always unhealthy – for both the week and the powerful with the only difference that the week perishes faster than the strong one. There has to be a balance for long-lasting peace. I’m not talking about the Cold-War era kind of peace, I’m talking more about like having more, non-hostile powerful countries. But that’s a long term thing.
So what should the rest of the world do? Unlike what happened in Iraq, or even in Afghanistan, I think, in case America goes ahead with the attack, more countries should join America. Sounds stupid? It isn’t. More people joining in would mean less American involvement. What would be better for the local Iranians — the attack hungry American soldiers or more sensible Indian, or even European soldiers? There would have been less destruction in Iraq and more results in Afghanistan if more countries had gotten involved, especially India. It also instills more brain power and experience into the whole operation. There is no use indulging in chest beating rhetoric when America goes on attacking sprees especially when you can neither stop the Americans nor help the country being attacked. The best thing to do is, join America and then make sure it doesn’t cause as much destruction as it does.
