He didn’t speak for 10 years, out of choice

Now this is what we call a resolve. At 3 he was to be taken to the hospital for a tonsillectomy and he had threatened that if his parents took him there, he would stop speaking. He did. He didn’t speak for 10 years.

    I call BS.

    Shy Ben Grocock, 13, was traumatised by an operation to remove his tonsils and adenoids as a three-year-old.

    Doctors diagnosed a rare anxiety order, selective mutism.

    It looks to me like raisingkids.co.uk is just flat-out lying to make a better story: but maybe they really are too stupid to realize there’s a difference between “selective” and “elective”.
